Friday afternoon is scheduled as Outing Day during which dance week attendees are encouraged to get out to see Newport in all its glory. A special outing was also planned for the Astors', scene of Friday Evening's 1890's Ball, for an afternoon of lawn games and other pleasantries.
The 1890's Ball at the Astors' Beechwood was a picturesque evening in an exquisite ballroom. During the intermission, a German figure had two of or dancers crossing swords over which group of gentlemen would have the right to dance with the one group of ladies. Fortunately, no blood was spilled!
