August 201022nd Annual Newport Vintage Dance Week Enjoy a week of dancing amid the splendors of the Gilded Age in Newport, RI, on the campus of Roger Williams University, Bristol, RI. Named a 2009 Most Memorable Party by the New York Times! The Newport Vintage Dance Week is an exceptional week of dance and elegance. Dance instruction will include popular ballroom dances of the mid 19th century (1860's), late 19th century (1890's) and of the Ragtime era (1910's). Full details are now available. Formal balls will be held at mansions in Newport and Portsmouth including Belcourt Castle, Glen Manor House and the spectacular Ochre Court on Salve Regina's campus. September 2010Victorian Dances of the Civil War (Dance & Exercise) Take a step backwards in time!as you enjoy learning dances from the Civil War era, many of which are still popular at folk, ballroom, and vintage dance events. We'll focus on the Lancers Quadrille, the Schottische, the Grand March, and several variations of the Waltz, including the Polka Mazourka, the Redowa, and the Boston. Some of the steps require physical agility, which you'll develop in class, while others are physically simple but will exercise your mind. To protect the floor and your knees alike, bring shoes with soft, smooth-soled shoes. there are 6 sessions (no clas s October 11), cost is $113 per person, $198 per Couple. The class is intended for beginners: no partner or previous experience required. Instructors will be Barbara Menard Pugliese and Michael Bergman. Visit the NCE website for more information Salem Vintage Dances Salem Vintage Dances December 2010Salem Vintage Dances Fezziwig’s Ball You are Cordially Invited to Attend Fezziwig’s Ball, an unforgettable Evening of Dance and Merriment from the Era of Dickens. Much of the program will consist of set dances which will be taught during the evening. These will include such Victorian favorites as Pop Goes the Weasel, other easy contradances and simple quadrilles, as well as Sir Roger de Coverly, an English version of the Virginia Reel.
