May 2008Mostly Waltz For Boston
Mostly Waltz, presented by Springstep and Helen Silver, is “a delightful afternoon of waltzing to a wonderful variety of live music, with every third dance another familiar couple dance: polka, one-step, swing, schottische, etc. ” There will be instruction in the basic rotary waltz with simple variations from 2:15 to 3:00 p.m. More info coming on who will play for dancing until 5:30 p.m. No partners necessary. Light refreshments will be served. Please bring clean smooth- soled shoes. $10 admission price includes instruction. The dance takes place at Springstep (98 George P. Hassett Drive). June 2008July 200817th Annual Nahant Victorian Day, 1860's Ball Live music will be provided by Spare Parts. Formal or semi-formal attire is requested, period attire is especially welcome. Light refreshments will be provided at the intermission. Current plans include a dance workshop, taught by Ben Bishop, to be held the day of the ball, 3 to 5pm. A few dances will be taught during the Ball including the Nahant Quadrilles. August 200821st Annual Newport Vintage Dance Week A week of dancing amid the splendors of the Gilded Age in Newport, RI, at the lovely Portsmouth Abbey School located on the shores of Narragansett Bay. The Newport Vintage Dance Week is an exceptional week of dance and elegance. Dance instruction will include popular ballroom dances of the mid 19th century (1860's), late 19th century (1890's) and of the Ragtime era (1910's). More details to follow as they become available. Please join the members of the Elegant Arts Society for our annual Assembly, two days of early nineteenth century dance and pastimes from the era of Jane Austen, Napoleon, Beau Brummel, and Lord Byron. Saturday afternoon, prepare for the evening's ball with a dance workshop. In the evening, join us in formal wear or period costume for a lively ball with music by the wonderful musicians of Spare Parts and delicious refreshments prepared from the sources of the era. The ball and dance workshops will be precepted by Susan de Guardiola, who will lead us in lively country dances and Scotch reels along with the very latest French import, the Quadrille (as danced by Lady Jersey at Almack's), Mr. Wilson's new Royal Scotch Quadrilles, and the scandalous Waltz.
